The position will be based in Rockville, Maryland. We are looking for a skilled and motivated researcher/developer with expertise in image processing, algorithm development, and deep learning. The successful applicant will be involved with developing computational analysis of images and other data acquired in collaboration with scientists, biologists, and/or clinicians across the NIH.     Computational analyses will involve combinatorial assessment of disparate data types (i.e. patient demographics, risk factors, genetic information, 2D and 3D imaging modalities, etc.) into comprehensive classification and regression models.  It is desired that the scientist will construct models using a variety of approaches including traditional machine learning (i.e. logistic regression, ridge/lasso regression, random forests, support vector machines, etc.), graph analytics, and deep learning. The scientist should also be familiar with development and optimization for CUDA and/or OpenCL and able to utilize packages and libraries that call these accelerators.    The scientist will participate in experimental design, data collection, data analysis and manuscript preparation; assist intramural staff, including students and postdoctoral fellows; stay current with scientific literature; stay informed about new approaches and technologies, including participation in conferences, workshops, and/or formal classroom instruction; independently locate and utilize scientific resources; and co-author peer reviewed publications.

The position will be based in Bethesda/Rockville, MD. We are looking for a skilled and motivated researcher/developer with expertise in algorithm development and optimization. The successful applicant will be involved with optimizing computational analysis (modern machine learning as well as deep learning solutions) of images and other “big data” acquired in collaboration with scientists, biologists, and/or clinicians across the NIH.  A server based computational platform is being developed in which heterogeneous compute architectures need to be supported including classical HPC nodes/clusters and modern GPU clusters.  Therefore, the ideal  applicant will have diverse experience in scaling algorithms in both classic HPC (C/C++/Julia) and GPU (CUDA/OpenCL/Vulkan) environments.

This includes communicating technical and scientific aspects of translational research projects and software/resources, and providing efficient updates on progress to the Translational informatics Director - Research and summarize background materials related to DPI Informatics projects; locate scientific or other policy related information on the internet and other means. - Ensure effective project plans are in place and operational. Responsibilities - Assist in the coordination of NIAID’s functions in the SARS-CoV-2 interagency group. - Provide project management activities for the program. - Work closely with Project Officers (POs) programs within NIAID. - Meet with the POs and the Viral Respiratory Diseases Section Chief on a regular basis to provide oral and/or written reports on the status of on-going projects and to receive new assignments. - Organize working groups and workshops. - Assist in the preparation of slides. - Attend meetings with program staff, write meeting summaries and briefing documents. - Read, review, summarize, and/or write documents. - Provide project management and technical expertise for selected projects and task orders. - Track preliminary scientific data, scientific publications of high interest, and contract generated data that needs to be reported and mapped to the working groups of the SARS-CoV-2 interagency Group. - Provide general organizational support including, but not limited to, writing meeting summaries, organizing calls and meetings, and helping with document filing on shared drives. - Provide organizational support to the program including updating the clinical database, collecting essential documents and tracking the status of the documents, organizing meetings, and writing meeting summaries. - Help coordinate schedules for the meetings between the extramural investigators and NIAID. - Help coordinate the lectures and presentations from outside NIAID speakers, scheduling the lectures and reserving rooms. - Collect, analyze, and synthesize scientific information related to SARS-CoV-2 testing across the programs. - Interact with NIAID staff to provide Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. - Assist on a variety of special, one-time projects that require immediate action including the coordination of workshops and reporting of their outcomes. Experience Required / Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline. - Two (2) year of experience in biology or a related field. - Demonstrate experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.). - Demonstrate experience with Skype, GoToMeeting, WebEx and/or other meeting planning programs. - Excellent communication skills. - Ability to articulate and record main points of meetings.
