We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).   Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Vaccine Formulation Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID),Vaccine Production Program (VPP) located in Bethesda, MD.     Technical Requirements - Coordinate formulation and stability studies in collaboration with senior personnel. - Execute studies for the evaluation and development of stable formulations for VRC vaccine and biotherapeutic candidates in collaboration with development teams. - Independently generate samples for analysis using standard laboratory techniques (buffer prep, dialysis, dilution, etc.) - Independently analyze samples employing spectroscopic, calorimetric, and other instrumentation. - Develop assays for vaccine and biotherapeutic characterization in collaboration with senior personnel. - Analyze, collate, and interpret data independently and in collaboration with team members. - Write and review technical reports and protocols documenting formulation, stability and method development studies. - Present data in small group and department settings. - Oversee external service and execute routine maintenance and troubleshooting for one or more pieces of laboratory instrumentation. - Coordinate formulation and stability studies under guidance of lead Formulation Scientist, including internal and interdepartmental activities and oversight of data analysis. - Collaborate with/design formulation and stability studies, incorporating elements of foundational theory with the lead Formulation Scientist. - Provide technical guidance and expertise to formulation team members. - Serve as Subject Matter Expert for one or more analytical and/or theoretical areas relevant to formulation development at the VRC.     Specific Qualifications - B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline - Minimum 2 years of industry, government or equivalent experience in protein formulation or a related field such as protein chemistry and protein analytics biophysical characterization, protein/vaccine stability. OR - M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline - 1 year of academic, industry, government or equivalent experience in protein/vaccine (Master’s degree experimental thesis may waive this requirement) - Good knowledge of protein and/or polymer chemistry; understanding of biophysical and bioanalytical properties of proteins a plus - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with data analysis software a plus (E.g. We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).   Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Scientific Communications Specialist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Office of the Scientific Director located in Bethesda, MD.     Technical Requirements - As part of the VRC Communications Team, develop visual and written communication products associated with the NIH, NIAID and VRC, working in coordination with the NIAID Office of Communications and Government Relations (OCGR) staff. - Develop VRC messaging and other products to communicate research successes. - Support internal and external communications methods which may include intranet, internal newsletter, electronic signage, institute-wide data calls, policy, and strategic plans, by developing content and language for response. Support the development of annual editorial calendar. Coordinate with VRC Communications Team members to draft original content for the internal newsletter as well as VRC’s communications initiatives and major events worthy of public attention. - Draft, review, and send concise and well-crafted emails to staff after coordinating with subject matter experts and related staff using Outlook or GovDelivery. - Support seminars, events, and tours for internal and external audiences and stakeholders. - Contact and coordinate with subject matter experts on responses for incoming media inquiries and interview requests, content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations, and public relations needs that increase the effectiveness of visual communications products in meeting the needs and requirements of the VRC. Track, archive, and report on these activities to VRC Senior Staff and Leadership. - Track and archive VRC information and messages that have been reviewed by subject - matter experts and assist with disseminating information as requested to increase the effectiveness of written communications products in meeting the needs and requirements of the VRC. - Ensure that all public messages, materials, and strategies for target audiences are credible, clear, and meaningful. - Prepare documents in accordance with office policies and procedures, including reviewing, revising, and editing as needed. Ensures responses conform to applicable regulations, style manuals, and publication standards. - Review and analyze documents for logical, well-organized structure. Checks and verifies information for accuracy and consistency using a broad variety of Internet sources such as PubMed, Medline, and other Web sites and search engines. - Continually support new communications methods and approaches to increase efficiency in achieving goals and objectives and ensures that communications messages are tailored to suit the new communications methods.   Specific Qualifications - Must have Bachelor’s degree. We are seeking a Budget Analyst to join the team at Axle Informatics. The selected candidate will be responding to NIH budgetary requests, preparing reports, forecasts, and analyses for NIH customers as well tracking contract metrics including Earned Value Management. This will include the evaluation of study design, feasibility, pharmaceutical regulatory requirements, and identifying solutions for pharmaceutical and logistical problems that may impede the conduct of a study. - Develop the text for the study product section of the protocols in cooperation with members of the protocol team and the pharmaceutical manufacturers for existing pharmaceutical products as well as new chemical entities and modalities. This includes researching and analyzing background material from Investigator’s Brochures, prescribing information, and literature reviews. - Advise the study team and DAIT leadership regarding pharmacy aspects of proposed studies. - Develop protocol specific trainings for site pharmacists and clinic staff utilizing web-based systems, software, or other tools (ie., power point presentation). - Provide leadership in collaboration with DAIT Project Managers and Regulatory Officers for developing study-specific blind labeling and packaging plan and strategies. - Review and approve study-specific labels by DAIT CPC. - Write and review Study Specific Pharmacy Manuals in collaboration with Project Managers. - Ensure that pharmaceutical concerns raised during the DCRC and other meetings are addressed in a timely manner. - Advise the protocol team regarding pharmaceutical issues relating to DAIT/NIAID standards, FDA and other Health Authorities regulations, State and in-country requirements. - Evaluate the protocol and provide leadership with estimates of study product needs and or cost based on factors such as sample size, dose, formulation, strength, rate of accrual, and duration. - Perform calculations for study product dilutions and aliquots and for compounding pharmaceutical preparations. - Generate Study Product Request Letter/ Email for study-specific and division leadership’s review and approval. - Provide pharmaceutical expertise during protocol conduct on pharmacy queries, product management issues, product availability and appropriate recommendations. - Conduct site visits as required to obtain information about existing infrastructure and processes to use to evaluate pharmacy personnel and infrastructure capacity at production facilities and Clinical Research Sites, as well as for-cause site visits as needed. - Review Pharmacy Establishment Plans with the site Pharmacist of Record and DAIT Project Managers to obtain information and clarity needed for final review and approval. - Evaluate and finalize all temperature excursions that occur during shipment and at Research Pharmacy Sites in collaboration with Regulatory Officers. - Receive and process product complaints with or without AES/SAEs from research site pharmacies. - Write/draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to DAIT Pharmaceutical Services and participate in SOP review committees as needed. - Assist DAIT/ NIAID Regulatory Officers in writing the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (CMC) section of the Investigational-new drug (IND) application. - Assist DAIT/ NIAID Clinical Product Center (CPC) Project Officer (PO)/ Contract Officer Representative (COR) in providing daily instructions, approvals for the CPC and other duties as needed for CPC oversight. - Review and approve study-specific batch records submitted by DAIT CPC. - Utilize pharmacy practice experience and pharmaceutical expertise in the design, review and revision of DAIT Pharmacy documents. - Participate in DAIT/NIAID funded clinical network meetings, face-to-face protocol development meetings, and protocol team meetings as a pharmaceutical subject matter expert. - Review pharmacy monitoring assessment reports and provide input regarding pharmacy and protocol prioritization for Clinical Site Monitoring plan as needed. - Order, receive, ship to DAIT CPC and maintain chain of custody of Investigational Products (Ips) purchased by the DAIT Procurement Facility. - Ensure proper storage conditions for IPs purchased by the procurement facility before they are transferred to DAIT CPC. - Ensure orders received are properly reconciled in the FedMall in a timely fashion. - Update the database of purchased IPs and track cost saving activities on a monthly basis. In addition, experiments may include the use of confocal microscopes. - Carry out experiments independently once the protocols and specific aims have been determined with the supervisor. Maintain detailed laboratory records. Evaluate, interpret, and discuss the results of each experiment with the supervisor. Participate in the planning of experiments and in the development of future studies. - Provide laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment, for ordering and storing laboratory supplies and equipment, which include chemicals, biological materials, centrifuges, microscopes, balances, flow cytometers, and laminar flow hoods, and for the proper and safe disposal of biological materials and chemicals. - Operate and communicate effectively in a group and a team-oriented working environment. Work collaboratively with other members of the laboratory to fulfill the mission of the Section of Molecular and Cellular Immunology and generate data for publication in scientific journals. Specific Qualifications - Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Life Sciences (e.g. biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology) plus a minimum of 2 or preferably 3 years of laboratory experience in a related field. - Proficient in principles of cellular and molecular biology. - Fluency in the use of applications such as Excel, Powerpoint, Prism, and others for analysis and presentation of biological data. - Experience with handling of biological and chemical material. Crosscheck all financial disclosure reports against previously filed reports, SAO lists, HHS-717-1, HHS 520s, HHS 521s and employee’s EMIS file to identify conflicts of interest; forward cleared reports to Ethics Program Specialist/Deputy Ethics Counselor (DEC) for final review and certification. Update employees’ EMIS files with data about financial disclosure reports after certification. Create new ethics folders for new employees, transferred employees and SGEs.   Deliverables: - Work products and documents related to conducting initial technical review of documents; obtain additional information from filer; crosscheck documents to identify conflicts of interest; forward cleared reports to staff for final review and certification. - Daily - Work products and documents related to creating new ethics folders; create NIMHD ethics reports; email reminders to OGE 278T filers; conduct initial review of ODAs for completeness of required information; follow up with employee to obtain missing information. - Daily - Work products and documents related to submitting completed package to Ethics Program Specialist and DEC for review and approval; upload all approved ODAs into EMIS; prepare draft for Ethics Program Specialist and DEC review of ODA requests; upload into EMIS and send final package to NEO Action Coordinator - Weekly - Work products and documents related to the development of WAGs and issues related to gifts, awards, honorary degrees, Hatch Act violations, and other Federal ethics law matters for Top 5 and other staff. - Ad-Hoc - Work products and documents related to response to ethics-related data calls.
