Note: part-time position (6-months period for a total of 780 hours). Responsibilities - Serve as a resource via scheduled phone and email communications to Division Management, Clinical and Operations staff, both US and internationally based, on all aspects of program planning, clinical research operations management, extramural scientific study operations, and Division policy. - Monitor by email and directed participation the progress of assigned projects and tasks against internal and external factors to provide comprehensive recommendations on all aspects of operations to Division management. - Review existing and proposed guidelines, policies and procedures of assigned clinical operations, scientific study operations, and projects to assess and recommend revisions or replacement. - Participate in scheduled meetings via conference call to maintain awareness of the progress of assigned programs, projects and tasks, as well as provide insight and recommendations to other participants and Division management, as needed, to help ensure alignment with organizational priorities and procedures. - Provide advice and counsel as requested to Division Management, Clinical and Operations staff. Responsibilities - Serve as the subject matter expert on matters related to pharmacy practice, investigational and commercial clinical trial material, drug information and medication use processes and procedures. - Serve as pharmacy liaison in the development/review of protocols and other study related documents with an emphasis on the investigational product related sections. - Liaise with the Division Programmatic Branches, protocol team, Principal Investigator (PI), and other site personnel in Manual of Procedure (MOP) development, and when necessary, train site personnel on proper mixing/dispensing procedures. - Liaise with manufacturers to resolve temperature excursions and stability issues. - Work with DMID contractors and subcontractors to facilitate investigational product review and management. - Assist in the coordination and development all pharmacy-related activities, projects and tasks within the DMID Product Support Team as defined by the Director of the Office of Regulatory Affairs. - Attend and contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings relating to clinical trials. - Maintain and update the DMID Study Product Management Guidelines to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Experience Required / Requirements - Requires a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and/or Pharm.D. - Experience in clinical research, protocol development and conduct, clinical practice, pharmaceutical industry, home health and infusion and/or infectious diseases practice is required. - Minimum of three (3) years of related experience. Examples of desired experience include investigational drug related experience, drug manufacturing and clinical trial management experience. Responsibilities - Develop downstream (purification) processes, under the supervision of a project lead scientist, for recombinant proteins, virus vaccines, and virus-like particles (VLP) that may be used as clinical candidates. - Work collaboratively within the purification group to design, develop and optimize chromatography and filtration step unit operations to support process development of clinical trial vaccine candidates and mAb products. - Purify research-phase recombinant proteins, virus vaccines and/or virus-like particles in support of other groups or external collaborators. - Work to prepare necessary materials (buffers, packed columns, etc.) in support of downstream process activities. - Support technology transfer of processes to Lab’s Pilot Plant for manufacture of clinical product through document generation and on-site support. - Write and review technical protocols and reports. - Analyze and compile data, present at various group/department meetings. Experience Required / Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. - 1-2 years of experience in recombinant protein purification development for GMP clinical-phase products. - Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records. - Must be a team player who can effectively work with members from cross-functional departments. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Familiarity with computer software including word processing and data evaluation. Axle Informatics is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Scientific Project Manager to coordinate the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Frederick National Laboratory serological science program for SARS-CoV-2. NCI has been charged to develop, validate, implement, and improve serological testing and the associated technologies. A rapid response project has been initiated to provide coordinated research efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and provide advanced research solutions. The project consortium consists of a Serological Sciences Network with capacity building centers and serological centers of excellence to conduct SARS-CoV-2 specific serological projects. The Scientific Project Manager will be the liaison across consortium activities to assure communication and timely outcomes. Responsibilities          - Provide recommendations on optimal non-clinical strategies to advance candidate products to the clinic. - Work closely with cross-functional groups to formulate non-clinical proof of concept and toxicology testing strategies prior to the start of any IND-enabling activities to ensure that the studies are meeting the program’s needs and are designed to fulfill regulatory requirements. - Communicate regulatory information to multiple departments and ensure that the information is interpreted correctly. - Successfully interact with other functional area experts in a project team environment to recommend the best course of preclinical development for a given program and explain those recommendations to VRC Leadership. - Facilitate communication and collaboration internally and/or externally (i.e., vendors/CRO) to ensure mutual clarity amongst multidisciplinary teams and accuracy and suitability of documents/reports for regulatory submission. - Maintain current knowledge of relevant domestic and international regulations, including proposed final rules and guidance documents. - Review and approve toxicology protocols and review non-clinical protocols for completeness and compliance with FDA current Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and applicable regulations. - Develop and integrate timelines for non-clinical activities with overall program timelines and VRC goals, in close coordination with Program Management, CMC, Clinical, Regulatory groups and other stakeholders. - Work together with Regulatory personnel and subject matter experts to author relevant sections of regulatory submission documents (pre-IND and IND) as well as the nonclinical section of Investigator’s Brochures. - Prepare and/or review all IND non-clinical reports, including toxicology reports from vendors/CRO for submission to the regulatory authorities. - Provide responses to regulatory agencies comments regarding non-clinical research or potential pre-IND and IND submission issues. - Collaborate with strategic planning group during contract negotiation to provide insight and guidance regarding scope of work pertaining to non-clinical/toxicology studies. - Oversee CROs and other external resources and ensure quality results are delivered. This includes study design, protocol development, coordination of study materials, data interpretation, report review and approval. - Develop and maintain SOPs, in collaboration with relevant subject matter experts, for non-clinical/toxicology studies, including their review and approval processes. Experience Required / Requirements - PhD in toxicology, biology/pharmacology, with at least 10 years related experience with vaccines and other biologics. - American Board of Toxicology (DABT) required. - Regulatory Affairs Certificate preferred. - Experience specifically supporting drug discovery research and development from a toxicology standpoint. - Experience in designing, conducting, monitoring and interpreting nonclinical toxicology/research studies. - Demonstrated success managing interactions with external CROs, consultants and other contract organizations is a plus. - Working knowledge of GLP regulations, ICH, and other regulatory guidance documents, and experience conducting and monitoring toxicology studies is critical. - Excellent organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills and ability to perform as an effective, flexible and self-assured team player. This position will have a focus on data analytics and data visualization.
