(VPP). Responsibilities - Contribute to the generation of stable cell lines for vaccine and therapeutic protein candidates including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, and virus-like particles. - Independently execute each step of the cell line development process including plasmid production, transfection, single cell cloning, clone expansion in static culture plates and shake flasks, fed-batch analysis, and clone stability studies. - Use automated platforms for clone selection and screening. - Prepare plasmid DNA using standard molecular cloning techniques. - Participate in cell line development platform design, optimization, and cycle-time reduction studies including methods for clone selection, expansion, ranking, and characterization. - Perform small-scale process development studies using various culture vessels including tissue culture plates, shake flasks, and small-scale bioreactors. - Generate stable pools and perform transient protein production for supply of reagent-grade material. - Provide laboratory support for medium preparation and ordering of supplies. - Perform maintenance of cell counters and bioprocess analyzers, coordination of service visits, and regular ordering of consumables. - Train other laboratory personnel on use of equipment and corresponding processes. - Write and review technical reports documenting process development studies and stable cell line generation work. - Work with other team members to generate experimental plans for process development studies. - Write and review standard operating procedures for cell line development processes and instrumentation. - Maintain complete documentation records, including a detailed and up-to-date laboratory notebook, to support regulatory filings. - Regularly communicate progress to team lead and present work to cell line development team. Experience Required / Requirements - B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience or M.S. in Biological Sciences with independent research experience in an academic or industrial setting. - Hands-on experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture along with supporting technologies for cell line engineering including cell counting, high-throughput transfection, single-cell cloning, and flow cytometry. - Experience in preparing technical reports, standard operating procedures, and data presentations. - Ability to work independently to execute defined experiments and troubleshoot issues as needed to meet project timelines. - Ability to effectively communicate plans, results, challenges, and ideas to other team members in oral and written forms. - Familiarity with computer software for word processing and data analysis. - Experience in monoclonal antibody and/or vaccine production. Responsibilities - Perform bioinformatic support using standard computer software packages for data management including data checking and cleaning of genotype and phenotype data, merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses, analyzing omics (DNA and RNA) data using a variety of standard statistical techniques including classical regression and statistical genetics tools. - Generate scripts in R to manage and analyze the data. - Provide support using RNASeq and methylation and assist with implementing existing and developing new analysis pipelines. - Communicate and assist the Federal Task Leader with the concepts, methodologies, and overall goals, conducts searches to locate the most relevant literatures pertinent to the project(s) to keep the knowledge up to date. - Analyze results and quality control of experiments to determine data generated is accurate and valid. - Compare results with those obtained from previous related studies to verify the validity of data, and able to prioritize tasks and troubleshot data discrepancy. - Discuss the data results with the Federal Task Leader and other team members. - Develop methods, analysis, organize and record experimental data in a form suitable for reports and publication and future reference by others. - Maintains complete, detailed records of all experiments performed. - Provide support and validate and manage transcriptomic datasets; statistically analyze transcriptomic data; and create predictive models for on-going research project. - Perform analyses using existing laboratory pipelines and summarize the results in a digestible manner and reports and deliver the information using established reporting procedures. Experience Required / Requirements - Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two year of work experience in genetic epidemiology or bioinformatics. - Proficiency in at least one major statistical analysis software package (e.g. SAS, or R) - Experience with computational cluster environments. - Microsoft Office software required. - Programming skills in R required. - Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills required. - Candidate must be detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks. - Bioinformatics experience is preferred. - Prior experience in genomics analysis and understanding of translational interpretation is preferred. - Candidates with expertise or interest in Genetic Epidemiology and/or the specific disease outcomes research are preferred. Responsibilities - Provide high level advisory and consultatory services to the NIAID Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO) for the following activities: - Assist the NIAID DDSM in a wide variety of data science research and projects. - Provide advice and recommendations to NIAID Leadership on the NIAID strategic direction, with particular emphasis on quantitative science, based on new scientific and technological developments in the research community. - Provide recommendations on the alignment of the NIAID strategic direction and scientific programs with those at other NIH Institutes and Centers, other Federal Agencies, and with community-based domestic and international organizations. - Provide recommendations on the NIAID research portfolio, in collaboration with NIAID portfolio analysis teams, particularly with regards to the role of quantitative sciences. - Provide recommendations on the NIAID training programs, including internal workforce training and extramural training programs, particularly regarding training in quantitative sciences. - Advise on research policy and governance at NIAID, including appropriate implementation of existing policies related to the responsible conduct of research and the responsible sharing and use of data and other resources of the research enterprise. - Provide recommendations on existing and new NIAID-supported research infrastructure and on synergies between infrastructure at NIAID and other NIH, Federal, and community-based organizations. - Support communication on scientific priorities, programs, and policies between NIAID, other NIH IC’s, Federal Agencies, community-based organizations, and other US or international stakeholders. Experience Required / Requirements - Minimum of a Doctoral degree. - The candidate should have formal degree-training in a biomedical area and over 10 years of experience in developing and managing research projects in the NIAID mission area. - Formal training and experience in research applied to infectious and immune-mediated diseases, as well as experience in managing teams and scientific programs at NIAID, NIH, or equivalent organizations. - The candidate should have demonstrated experience in establishing new teams to meet organizational objectives, in developing a strategic vision that aligns with the larger organizational context, and in developing scientific and training activities to implement a strategic vision of an organization. - The candidate must have experience in advising, developing, and implementing, and - evaluating scientific projects, and in establishing successful collaborations across scientific disciplines. - The candidate should have a track record of collaborating across multiple domestic and international organizations and in developing strategic alliances between organizations towards a common goal. - Experience with data science. Responsibilities - Conduct literature and database research for material needed for scientific programmatic needs. - Develop and maintain database and website content related to scientific operations under the direction of FTL. - Document and analyze program activity to identify needs, issues, and development procedural improvements. - Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for acquisition justification documentation. - Under the direction of the Scientific Operations manager, maintain and oversee the VPP supply chain in support of development and production of government vaccine and biotherapeutic investigational products, including, but not limited to: - Primary VPP contact for government Procurement systems. - Entry of AMBIS requests. - Monitoring Procurement request status and troubleshooting as needed. - Communicating with internal VPP and VRC (as applicable) supply end users to facilitate paperwork required by government procurement systems. - Remain current with government acquisition regulations (FAR) and communicate relevant changes to VPP Scientific Operations manager. - Maintain approved supplier list for use by VPP staff. - Monitors both Commercially Available Goods (CAG), Laboratory Equipment Service Contracts under the FTL, including, but not limited to: - Ensure stockrooms supply lists remain up to date. - Gives recommendation to FTL on requests from VPP Scientific Staff for stockroom additions/deletions. - Periodically review stockroom content with appropriate functional areas to ensure all items are consistent with current VPP processes. - Coordinate with team leads and Scientific Operations Manager to establish yearly standing order requests to meet programmatic needs with signification needs and lead-times. - Conduct market research based on technical requirement provided by program staff and makes recommendations to FTL. - Confirm staff has proper safety training are in place and is followed under the guidance of the Scientific Operations Manager. - Under the direction of the FTL, liease with VRC management and operations group on VPP facility and operations request via established working group. - Assist FTL with VPP budgetary operations under direction of FTL: - Supply expenditures and anticipated project costs per project (monthly basis) - Analyze program expenditures to provide information to FTL Manager as requested to facilitate periodic budget review (quarterly basis) and project review. - Develop and maintain database to track program expenses. o Subject Matter Expert for: - Team members within operations on the subjects of VPP equipment, VPP procurement requests, and receiving. Experience Required / Requirements - M.S. degree with minimum of 6 years of federal acquisition experience or bachelor’s degree in federal acquisitions with 8 years of specialized experience in scientific laboratory equipment and consumable acquisitions - A minimum of 4 years of experience in biopharma/process development environment - A minimum of 5 years of experience with laboratory operations management - A minimum of 2 years of experience with ELN/LIMS systems - Experience in preparation of biological buffers and sterile filtration, preferred. - Ability to both follow and write/revise SOP’s in the areas of acquisitions and logistics. - Hands-on experience with inventory management systems - Expert in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word - Demonstrated programing experience with Smartsheet software. - Ability to maintain budgetary spending reports. - Familiarity with general scientific/biotechnology laboratory supply requirements. - Strong analytical capabilities to prepare inventory analyses. - Strong communication skills to communicate to internal and external stakeholders. - Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality.
