Overview
Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Scientific Program Manager join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Office of Director (OD).
Responsibilities
- Provide high level advisory and consultatory services to the NIAID Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO) for the following activities:
- Assist the NIAID DDSM in a wide variety of data science research and projects.
- Provide advice and recommendations to NIAID Leadership on the NIAID strategic direction, with particular emphasis on quantitative science, based on new scientific and technological developments in the research community.
- Provide recommendations on the alignment of the NIAID strategic direction and scientific programs with those at other NIH Institutes and Centers, other Federal Agencies, and with community-based domestic and international organizations.
- Provide recommendations on the NIAID research portfolio, in collaboration with NIAID portfolio analysis teams, particularly with regards to the role of quantitative sciences.
- Provide recommendations on the NIAID training programs, including internal workforce training and extramural training programs, particularly regarding training in quantitative sciences.
- Advise on research policy and governance at NIAID, including appropriate implementation of existing policies related to the responsible conduct of research and the responsible sharing and use of data and other resources of the research enterprise.
- Provide recommendations on existing and new NIAID-supported research infrastructure and on synergies between infrastructure at NIAID and other NIH, Federal, and community-based organizations.
- Support communication on scientific priorities, programs, and policies between NIAID, other NIH IC’s, Federal Agencies, community-based organizations, and other US or international stakeholders.
Experience Required / Requirements- Minimum of a Doctoral degree.
- The candidate should have formal degree-training in a biomedical area and over 10 years of experience in developing and managing research projects in the NIAID mission area.
- Formal training and experience in research applied to infectious and immune-mediated diseases, as well as experience in managing teams and scientific programs at NIAID, NIH, or equivalent organizations.
- The candidate should have demonstrated experience in establishing new teams to meet organizational objectives, in developing a strategic vision that aligns with the larger organizational context, and in developing scientific and training activities to implement a strategic vision of an organization.
- The candidate must have experience in advising, developing, and implementing, and
- evaluating scientific projects, and in establishing successful collaborations across scientific disciplines.
- The candidate should have a track record of collaborating across multiple domestic and international organizations and in developing strategic alliances between organizations towards a common goal.
- Experience with data science.
