Axle Informatics is a bioinformatics and information technology company that offers innovative computer services, informatics, and enterprise solutions to research centers and healthcare organizations around the globe. With experts in software engineering, bioinformatics and program management, we focus on developing and applying technology tools and techniques to empower decision-making and accelerate the discovery in translational research. We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of health (NIH). We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to support our work at the NIH. The position will be based in Rockville, MD.


  • Design and develop automated software solutions
  • Design and implement AWS or  Microsoft Azure or  Google Compute, any one of the underlying technologies
  • Maintain established service agreements to manage customer expectations and quality standards
  • Create a standard approach and best practice to create and maintain automated test plans, test scripts, test suites, etc.
  • Proactively seeks training and developmental activities related to cloud services
  • Develop and present technical solutions and configurations for infrastructure as a service
  • Create conceptual, logical and physical design for cloud-based solutions for platforms
  • Ability to grow cloud consumption in large or highly strategic accounts
  • Proven ability of success on major projects transformations and successful transitions to implementation support teams


  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An active problem solver who enjoys challenging situations and creating solutions
  • 3-5 years experience working with cloud computing technologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Serve Technologies (Azure Active Directory, PowerShell, DNS, etc.)
  • Able to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users and staff to further the adoption of DevOps
  • Experience with automation/configuration management
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Ruby, Perl, Python, PHP etc.
  • Ability to evaluate the impact of security issues with respect to the organizations mission and prioritize efforts based on risk
  • Team leader who can manage a group to maximize their individual skills
  • Proven track record of building technical relationships with senior executives
  • Possess knowledge in configuration management and version control tools

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of cloud architecture
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • Working knowledge of Nodes.JS, PHP, .NET and Java
  • Hands-on DevOps Tools experience
